Afro-Indigenous Pottery Tradition in Barbados

Exploration of local Afro-Indigenous pottery tradition.

Casa Julfa Earth Magic Wild Clay Workshop 

(September 2024)

Montmorillion, France 

Weeklong exploration of wild clay, focusing on ancestral techniques and processes. Workshop covers locating, collecting, and processing raw clay, alongside ancestral methods of clay preparation, hand-building, and finishing techniques such as burnishing and terra sigillata; culminating in wood-firing using traditional methods.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico

Research and development trip led by an indigenous family of traditional clay workers in Chiapas, Mexico. a weeklong immersive workshop including a start to finish process from collecting the wild clay, processing it, the various stages to hand building, burnishing and then decorating it with natural pigments and a final firing.
